This program is an 8- 10 week comprehensive sexuality education class that teaches older elementary kids about a range of topics related to growing older and healthy relationships. This class is informed by the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education produced by the National Guidelines Task Force, a group of leading health, education, and sexuality professionals assembled by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS). In every category of assessment, the curriculum meets or exceeds the National Standards for Sexuality Education Core Curriculum, K-12 (PDF). This class is only available for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
Topics that will be covered are listed below. Some classes may be combined for the 8 week class, which will mean class will run a bit late on 2 days. Parents will be informed ahead of time. Parent participation is strongly encouraged and reflects family discussion through homework assignments. Students will be provided with a copy of It's Perfectly Normal, by Harris & Emberly.
**If there are more than 12 students, it would be wise to see about doing a 10 week course. In that event, class would follow the below format.
Orientation via Zoom for Parents
Week 1 Body Image
Week 2 Relationships
Week 3 Self Esteem
Week 4 Feelings & Attractions
Week 5 Decisions & Actions
Week 6 Puberty
Week 7 Consent
Week 8 Gender
Week 9 Peer Pressure
Week 10 Healthy Relationship
Cost for the class will depend on students. If more than 6 students enroll, class will be $225 for each student. For 5-6 students, class will be $250 each student. Please reach out with any questions. Depending on the space, there might be a limit to the number of students I can accommodate.
Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis with a $100 deposit to hold your spot. Please sign up for Spring session for more details.
Classes will be held on Wednesday, after school and will run for 8 weeks from 3:15-ish until 4:45pm. A parent orientation meeting will be in early March. Class will likely be walking distance of Roosevelt Elementary.
Please sign up here to be included in classes in the possible future. It is unlikely I will be able to do classes Fall 2026 or Spring 2027, but I may be able to do Summer classes if there is interest or a weekend. Stay tuned.
